BETWEEN THREADS AND BONES |LEAVES THE AUDIENCE IMMOBILE IN THEIR SEATS

Jose Vicente Peiro | Stage Network - Principal Theatre of Valencia.

This creation by the company DDCdanza by Granada-born Daniel Doña, one of the great souls of flamenco, brought to the highest artistic expression thanks to his innovative approach, reaches sublime moments, elevating sensibilities and filling the audience with emotion. There is not a minute wasted in the production and the continuous display of ingenuity can be appreciated from beginning to end, always with a unique plasticity and lyricism that give an extraordinary visual appeal to a dramaturgy that is also moving.

HABITAT / XXXII INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL MADRID IN DANCE

Roger Salas, EL PAÍS NEWSPAPER, 22.11.2017

Within a few minutes of starting, the quality, the polish of the work and the dedication of the artists prevailed, affirming the old saying that it is not a question of quantity or size, but of quality and conscience, of professional workmanship, of nuances and substance. In Habitat there is no fear of mixing and variety, or of experimentation, a contemporary discourse is proposed where the craft and good dancing shine, where a long previous workshop work stands out. Even when we see academic ballet we are seeing contemporary art… Doña seeks an intelligent clearing of the classic figures of Spanish dance and other forms of flamenco ballet (some of its palos), she mixes them with well-learned ballet and with a subtle and progressive deconstruction, which leads to a geometry of firm angles.

RETROSPECTIVE 2.0 | THE BODY AS A STAGE

Teobaldos, DIARY OF NAVARRA, 16.05.2018 | University of Navarra

Daniel Doña breaks the seams of conventional movements to investigate and break through the fourth wall, asserting that the true stage is the body on which falls an honest dance, without deception, novel and open, but perfectly grounded in great technical preparation and classical and flamenco knowledge. There is intuition, poise, exploration, risk, wedges of contemporary dance without limits, it is a lesson in art, a delight and beauty, always beauty.

HÁBITAT /TANZHAUS NRW - DÜSSELDORF

Susanne Zellinger, FLAMENCO DIVINO, 06.04.2017

Daniel Doña and Cristian Martín are two of the most important representatives of Spanish Dance. Last night they created a Habitat that could be performed and find its place in any Theatre in the World, a perfect combination of tradition and avant-garde, a sophisticated and light show. Accompanied by Alfredo Valero, a musician with a strong stage presence, Daniel and Cristian danced “Córdoba de Albéniz”, an exquisite, almost weightless Pas de Deux that belongs to the Spanish Dance repertoire and was accompanied by beautiful lighting by Olga García. David Vázquez's traditional singing of Romances was far-reaching, a journey into tradition where emphasis is placed on a purist approach through the naked voice, without the accompaniment of any instrument. A night like a breath of wind, which had barely begun and was all over.

HABITAT / XXXII INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL MADRID IN DANCE

Julio Bravo, ABC Newspaper, 11/23/2017

Daniel Doña has become one of the most innovative choreographers in our dance world, and has always been characterised by his desire to break down walls and barriers, to incorporate different words into his vernacular flamenco vocabulary. With Hábitat he goes even a step further, it is an overflowing show, in which styles, influences, preferences are intertwined… Both Daniel Doña and Cristian Martín, the dancers, show their splendid technique, their rigour and their quality in the show; a quality that extends to the musicians, the singer David Vázquez and the accordionist Alfredo Valero, who give an unusual sound frame to the show.

DANIEL DOÑA'S ECLECTIC DANCE DOES NOT PAUSE

Flamenco Madrid / Suma Flamenca. Ignacio Suárez-Zuloaga

NO PAUSA is an innovative, eclectic, well-executed show with a choreography that takes off through a varied and sophisticated choreographic evolution by the brilliant company of Daniel Doña. The original music recorded by Héctor González gives way to flamenco compositions masterfully played by Francisco Vinuesa and sung by the excellent David Vázquez. The choreographic result, supported by elaborate lighting by Olga García, is better than good and, what is even more important for me, shows that there is innovation and a desire to experiment in the choreographies of this company. We hope to see more from Daniel Doña and his people soon.

WITHOUT A DOUBT ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS OF THE SUMMER

Roger Salas, EL PAIS, Printed Edition.

A true revelation where ideas come together with good dancing and in-depth interpretation with things to say. Daniel Doña Dance Company is committed to mixing styles, from flamenco to contemporary dance, generating striking images where the beauty of posture and gesture is crossed by choreographies of a novel character, taken to a dark and rough no man's land, which moves. They are four interdisciplinary artists very different from each other, but united by their honesty and interest in experimentation and by their technical quality, who travel through time in a timeless art such as flamenco that is still alive thanks to figures such as Doña and the excellent company with which she surrounds herself.

AT STREET LEVEL, THE WARRIOR OF SPANISH DANCE

Sonia Salmerón, Kaliuflamenco.Ciutat Flamenco 2015 (Flower Market)

Instead of tapas, this edition features pieces by established artists, including “A pie de calle” by Daniel Doña. It is true that it is good that space is given to the proposals of this artist, a standard-bearer in the fight for the vindication of Spanish dance.
