«Encuentros Canal Sur» welcomes the choreographer and dancer from Granada, Daniel Doña, one of the most innovative figures in the current dance scene in Spain. Winner of two Max Awards, Daniel Doña has been consolidating his own style, project by project and with a rigorous, highly expressive and limitless language, which freely explores the territories of Spanish dance, flamenco and contemporary dance. His latest success, currently on tour, is entitled «Entre hilos y huesos», a show that speaks of freedom, struggle and memory, where he vindicates the healing power of art wherever politics and wars tear apart coexistence. The artist leads his own company and collaborates on numerous projects by other members and friends of his generation such as Olga Pericet, Marco Flores or Manuel Liñán. After several decades in Madrid, he has returned to Granada to settle down and launch «La Itinerante», a teaching and creative initiative to promote the talent of emerging artists from his land.

According to the specialized press, Daniel Doña is a “rara avis” of our dance due to his ability to reinterpret the tradition of Spanish dance and flamenco in a contemporary key and to open himself to new scenic languages. A good example of this is the extensive catalogue of shows that the choreographer from Granada has created in the last decade for his artistic structure “DDCdanza”.
Daniel Doña Dance Company is one of the eleven companies selected to tour in the network of Contemporary Dance Festivals in unconventional spaces of the ACIELOABIERTO 2020 circuit.
